Who we are

Political organizing with a neighborhood soul.

Bishop Arts Area Democrats is a local political club built to make civic life feel social, useful, and genuinely welcoming.

We are part social club, part organizing hub, and fully committed to building Democratic power in and around the Bishop Arts area.

We show up for local and statewide races, keep our community informed, and create easy ways for neighbors to get involved without needing a political résumé.

Democracy works better when people know each other.

BAADASS (Bishop Arts Area Democrats, Active Social Society) started because a handful of neighbors got tired of watching local races get decided by whoever happened to show up, and decided to be the ones who showed up instead. What began as a chance run-in by a couple of people with shared values and a desire for a voice is now one of the organizing backbones for Democratic campaigns across District 1, the city of Dallas, Dallas County, the state of Texas and, yes, our country.

We work the whole calendar: block walks and postcard parties before elections, accountability campaigns and public comment drives between them. When a state senator votes against his district, when a school board tries to slip a bad curriculum through, when a Congressional map gets redrawn to erase our voice…we’re already in it, not catching up to it.

The “Active Social Society” half of our name isn’t decoration. We built this club so that organizing didn’t have to feel like a chore. So canvassing has a happy hour attached, and the happy hour has a purpose attached. Neighbors first. Organized always.

Texas voter registrations can be placed in suspense or cancelled through voter-roll maintenance procedures. Do not assume that because you have voted before, your registration is still active.

Our recommendation: check now, check again before early voting begins October 19, and confirm your polling information before you head out to vote.

If you get to the polls and they say you are not on the voter roll

Do not leave. Ask for a provisional ballot.

Texas election guidance provides a provisional-ballot process for a voter whose name is not on the list of registered voters. Election officials will review the ballot and your eligibility after it is cast. A provisional ballot is not automatically counted — but you should not walk away without using the process available to you.

Need to register or check your status?

Texas requires eligible voters to register by the 30th day before Election Day. For the November 3, 2026 election, the deadline is October 5, 2026.

You can start an application online, but a new Texas voter-registration application still must be printed, signed and delivered or mailed to the county voter registrar. A BADASS Volunteer Deputy Registrar can meet you with an application and help you get registered.

Vote by mail

Do you qualify for a mail ballot?

Texas limits voting by mail to voters who meet at least one eligibility ground:

65 or older on Election Day
Sick or disabled
Expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day
Outside your county during early voting and on Election Day
Civilly committed under Chapter 841
Confined in jail but otherwise eligible
